Rockingham County Landfill Gas Combustion Project

About the project
The Landfill consists of seven areas; Old Fill Part 1, Old Fill Part 2, and Phases 1, 2, 3, 4 and 5A. The Project consists of two stages, both implemented at the Rockingham County Landfill. Stage one (1) of the Project is owned and operated by the County of Rockingham (the “County”). Stage two (2) of the Project is owned and operated by both the County and the Rockingham Memorial Hospital (the “Hospital”). In particular, the County owns the pipeline used to transport gas to the Hospital and the facility and all equipment used to process the landfill gas for use by the Hospital, SCS will operate this part of the Project on behalf of the County. The Hospital owns and operates the boilers, the energy generation facility and all equipment used to produce steam, heat and electricity for the Hospital’s use.

How it works
Rockingham County is the owner and operator of the landfill, flare skid and associated components, and the landfill gas transmission pipeline to the Hospital. The Hospital is the owner and operator of the boilers. The Project consists of two stages: (1) expansion of the existing landfill gas collection system and destruction of landfill gas in an open flare; (2) implementation of a beneficial use project by which landfill gas is destroyed in off-site boilers at the Rockingham Memorial Hospital. These activities result in a net reduction of CO2e emissions.
